2018 Memorial Grant

The Board of Directors of Mystic Valley Railway Society (MVRS) is
pleased to announce the 2018 Memorial Grant to recognize the
accomplishments of W. Russell Rylko, the Society’s founding president
and his direct impact on its success over a forty three (43) year period
until his passing in 2013. The Grant will be awarded to a nonprofit, tax
exempt organization within New England that preserves and/or
restores historically significant railroad and traction equipment,
structures or provides information for the enjoyment and education of
the general public. As we know, Russ had no greater passion than his
love of railroading and it is altogether fitting and proper that his legacy
be remembered. The previous awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017 were the
subject of a detailed application and screening process. The same
process will be utilized in the awarding of the 2018 Grant at the MVRS
Annual Meeting in May 2018. Additional information will be available at
www.mysticvalleyrs.org and in forthcoming Waybill Newsletters

Update:  By the time you read this, the co-recipients of the 2018 Rylko Grant will have been awarded their disbursements at the Mystic Valley Railway Society Annual Meeting held Saturday May 5, 2018 at the Mt. Vernon Restaurant in Somerville MA. The award of $6,100.00 was presented to the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum for the procurement of materials to assist in the bridging of the Trout Brook in their track extension of ¾ miles to their existing right of way. The award of $3,900.00 was presented to the Boothbay Railway Village to assist in their ongoing project in the renovation of Bridgton & Saco River Railroad Coach # 11, the last surviving Baggage/Railway Post Office (RPO) car from the iconic two-foot gauge railroads of Maine. The successful completion of each project should greatly enhance the ability and enjoyment of the general public when viewing and learning the history of Maine Two-Foot Gauge Railroads.
